OIE Production Instances
What is a managed production instance?
A production-ready OIE instance that runs in production without you running the infrastructure. NovaMap operates the engine itself and the infrastructure beneath it — elastic, resilient compute and storage, secure communications, the operating system, and the JVM — so you sign in and start building channels.
How do I provision one?
Getting a production instance is straightforward:
- Create a NovaMap account.
- Go to Instances in the portal.
- Request a production instance.
How does a production instance differ from a dev instance?
Unlike our dev instances, production instances are sized for real load and configured for resilience, so your integrations keep running. Functionally, a dev instance behaves the same as a production instance — the difference is how each is provisioned and operated.
Your production instance includes:
- Production-grade NovaMap Cloud hosting
- Configurable VM sizing
- Optional high availability
- Optional dedicated static IP
- Latest stable OIE version
- Priority support
How much does a production instance cost?
Pricing is based on the server size you choose. Every production instance is fully managed — the operating system, JVM, and OIE itself are all included. Prices are billed annually.
- 2 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 100 GB storage — £4,720/yr
- 4 vCPU, 16 GB RAM, 250 GB storage — £7,555/yr
- 8 vCPU, 32 GB RAM, 500 GB storage — £12,820/yr
- Custom sizing — price on application
Optional add-ons:
- High availability — +£11,439/yr
- Static IP address — +£300/yr
How do I run the OIE administrator?
Just like Mirth Connect™, the OIE administrator is a Java application that is downloaded from OIE each time but runs on your own machine. To run the administrator you will need to install a launcher. You can use either of the following two launchers:
- Ballista by Kiran Ayyagari
- Mirth Connect™ Administrator Launcher by NextGen
Once you've installed the launcher, configure it with the JNLP URL that we provided you by email and that you can also find in the details section of your production instance on the portal.
What differences are there between Open Integration Engine and Mirth Connect™?
OIE is a maintained fork of the last open source version of Mirth Connect™, version 4.5.2, and as such you will notice very little difference. Its API is compatible with Mirth Connect™ 4.5.2. There have been a number of ‘under the hood’ changes, either to enhance functionality and performance, or to address identified vulnerabilities. For a full list of changes and issues that have been addressed, take a look at the release notes on Github. For more information on the OIE back story, take a look here.
How is high availability handled?
High availability is optional. Our HA configuration uses active/active compute units and DB, spread across availability zones. Updates are applied in a staggered manner to ensure no downtime during updates. Managed backups and a defined recovery process mean a single fault doesn't become an outage.
Do you monitor instances that aren't hosted by NovaMap?
Yes. We can watch resource health and integration status for OIE instances in the NovaMap cloud, your own cloud, or on-premise, and alert your team when something needs attention.
How do I request support?
Send an email to support@novamap.health.
