OIE Dev Instances
Frequently asked questions about OIE dev instances.
How do I run the OIE administrator?
Just like Mirth Connect, the OIE administrator is a Java application that is downloaded from OIE each time but runs on your own machine. To run the administrator you will need to install a launcher. You can use either of the following two launchers:
- Ballista by Kiran Ayyagari
- Mirth Connect Administrator Launcher by NextGen
Once you've installed the launcher, configure it with the JNLP URL that we provided you by email and that you can also find in the details section of your dev instance on the portal.
What differences are there between Open Integration Engine and Mirth Connect?
OIE is a maintained fork of the last open source version of Mirth Connect, version 4.5.2, and as such you will notice very little difference. Its API is compatible with Mirth Connect 4.5.2. There have been a number of ‘under the hood’ changes, either to enhance functionality and performance, or to address identified vulnerabilities. For a full list of changes and issues that have been addressed, take a look at the release notes on Github. For more information on the OIE back story, take a look here.
How does a dev instance differ from a production instance?
Unlike our production instances, our OIE dev instances are not configured for high availability and high load but rather for authoring integrations and testing. You should expect that occasionally we may restart the instances overnight and we strongly recommend not putting sensitive data through a dev instance. However, functionally, you can expect a dev instance to perform exactly the same as a production instance.
How can I pay for a dev instance when the trial period is over?
Towards the end of the trial we will send you an email outlining your options. We can take payment using credit card, bank transfer or set up an account and payment terms subject to credit rating.
What happens to my dev instance when the trial ends?
If you have not taken out a paid subscription by the time that the trial ends, we will archive your OIE dev instance for a period of 3 months. An archived OIE instance can be made active again upon entering into a paid subscription.
