Minimal Launcher
What is the NovaMap Minimal Launcher?
The Minimal Launcher launches the familiar Open Integration Engine (OIE) admin console directly from the NovaMap portal. Launching an admin console has historically meant moving passwords around, keeping them in text files, and splitting them across workstations. The Minimal Launcher handles authentication within the platform's OIDC context and eliminates the need for clunky configuration and credential management.
How does it work?
The launcher securely retrieves the instance configuration from the portal, then downloads the client through JNLP, as always. It preserves your authenticated portal identity through use of the NovaMap OIDC plugin, so there is no separate set of credentials to configure or store.
How are my actions inside OIE audited?
An OIE user is created automatically, linked to your identity on the portal, so any actions taken inside OIE are audited against that identity.
What is the novamap_portal user?
A separate novamap_portal system user is created for monitoring purposes. It is distinct from the user account linked to your portal identity.
Does the portal show whether my admin console is running?
Yes. The installed launcher keeps in sync with the portal, showing which admin clients are up and running.
Which instances can I use it with?
The Minimal Launcher is available to anyone with a NovaMap portal account, including on the free OIE dev instance.
